First Tuesday: CHANGE OF SPEAKERS: Doug Miller and Steve Grinter – ‘ITG on Tyne – The Work of the International Textile Garment and Leather Workers Federation’

September 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The 5 September First Tuesday was planned to feature Eric Wade talking about ‘The Big Hewer’. Unfortunately Eric can no longer make it.

However, we are delighted to say that Doug Miller and Steve Grinter have agreed to step in and bring forward from November, their talk on The Work of the International Textile Garment and Leather Workers Federation.

The International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers’ Federation was a Global Union Federation representing more than ten million trade union members in over a hundred and ten different countries around the world. Until 2012, when the organisation merged into a new global union IndustriALL, the ITG had an office in Newcastle. Work co-ordinated from Newcastle included campaigning for the elimination of child labour, promoting trade union rights as well as negotiating collective bargaining agreements at the global level. This presentation will explain the history and work of the ITGLWF and especially the work co-ordinated from the Newcastle office.
