Newcastle Performance – Sylvia Pankhurst

April 26 @ 7:30 pm

£8 - £10

Sylvia Pankhurst has been called “the greatest Englishwoman of the twentieth century”. She won three art scholarships, including one to Venice, and painted the first pictures of working women. After her mother and sister founded the Women’s Social and Political Union (the suffragettes), she gave up her art to rouse the women of the East End to fight for the vote.

SYLVIA is a one woman show played against a background of 250 slides, including almost all Sylvia’s paintings and photographs from nine local, national and international picture libraries, showing some of the leading figures, events and places of the suffragette movement.

The performance is followed by an audience discussion led by Jacqueline Mulhallen, the author and actress.
