North East Labour History Society AGM. Speaker, Hilary Wainwright will talk about The Past is Before Us: Experiences from Tyneside in the 1970s

September 11 @ 19:00

Hilary Wainwright – Editor, Red Pepper

Hilary Wainwright is a longstanding political activist, writer and editor of Red Pepper. She lived on Tyneside in the 1970s and was actively engaged with the Socialist Centre and local trade unions.

In particular, Hilary was engaged with a ‘new unionism’ that focussed on workers plans as alternatives to capitalist business. She co-authored (with Huw Beynon) the Workers’ Report on Vickers.

Hilary will talk about this history of activism but relate it to our present circumstances and future possibilities as discussed in her new book, A New Politics From The Left.

Copies of Hilary’s book will be available at the meeting at a special price and she will sign them.

An agenda will be published nearer to the date of the meeting. Please let the have any items for the agenda by 17 August 2018. Also please note that this is the final date for receipt of proposed changes to the Society’s constitution.
