Eileen: The Making of George Orwell, an interview with biographer Sylvia Topp at Jesmond Library, St. Georges Terrace NE2 2DL on Friday 27 March at 7.00pm

This is the never-before-told story of George Orwell’s first wife Eileen O’Shaughnessy, who was born and brought up in South Shields and who shaped, supported, and even saved the life of one of the twentieth century’s great writers.

Sylvia, who lives in Kingston, Ontario will be in the UK to support the publication of Eileen in March.
