Crowley’s works at Winlaton dominated the iron trade in the 18^th. Century. Joseph Cowen jnr. said ‘The semi-socialistic experiment of Crowley was interesting both politically & industrially’ and this talk looks at some aspects of Crowley’s works and their effect on the village of Winlaton.
