Welcome to the North East Labour History Society
Here is some information about us.
We publish an annual Journal which is sent to all members, usually around September. You will also receive the current issue in the next couple of weeks. Contributions are welcomed from all members and beyond. Details of how to contribute and past Journals can be found at the Journal pages on our website: http://nelh.net/the-societys-journal/.
Whilst “Labour History” has been our core interest, over the years this has widened to activism of many other kinds: the women’s movement, diversity, education, housing, health and so on.
We meet each month for a paper or talk, usually on a Tuesday. Our programme of meetings is on our home page: http://nelh.net/. The talks are from a range of people: experienced historians talking about subjects they have intimate knowledge of, activists who can talk about their work, post graduate students looking for a sounding board for their developing ideas and other people who are independently pursuing lines of investigation.
The website also has information about work we have done in recent years, in particular the North East Popular Politics Project which has produced 60 oral histories of activists and others in the region (https://nelh.net/resources-library/oral-history//) and a database of findings from local archives (http://ppp.nelh.net/). There are also some book reviews and appreciations of local activists (https://nelh.net/radical-lives/).
