At the North East Labour History Society AGM on 6 October 2026, Aimee Rutherford was presented with the 2025 Sid Chaplin prize for her essay entitled: The Past We Inherit. The Future We Build: How the Memory of the 1984-85 Coal Miners’ Strike Still Influences Northumberland Today. The essay was based upon research among family and others who were involved in the 1984-85 strike and how these events are remembered.
