Newcastle University: Newcastle Antiquaries Conference, Eighteenth-Century Political Participation and Electoral Culture

7 July 2022 - 9 July 2022

From Newcastle Antiquaries

Newcastle University have announced the programme for their conference on Eighteenth-Century Political Participation and Electoral Culture, on 7-9 July. This is part of a wider project, which aims to explore how ordinary people participated in parliamentary elections in England, from 1695 until the Reform Act of 1832, run by the University in conjunction with Liverpool University and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Follow this link to register.

The Antiquaries were in at the beginning of this when we digitised our copy of the Poll Book for the Newcastle election of 1780, and it was then transcribed by a group of volunteers. We have supported the project since then, and are providing the funds for four £50 travel bursaries for unwaged participants. Closing date for applying for these is 1 May, and they will be allocated by the Conference organisers.
