South Shields: Exhibition to Commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the St Hilda’s Pit Disaster

St Hilda’s Pit Head has been restored by the Tyne and Wear Restoration Trust and is now used as a community centre, focussing on the arts.
There is an exhibition there of paintings by local artists to commemorate the pit disaster when 51 men and boys were killed. Both building and exhibition are well worth a visit. The exhibition is open next week as follows:
Tuesday 11 June 12.00 – 2.00
Wednesday 12 June 11.00 – 2.00
Thursday 13 June 10.00 – 1.00
