NELH Tuesday Meeting: Peter Brabban will talk about Derwentside in the Winter of 1962/3
1 November 2022 @ 19:00 - 20:30
My talk looks at the harsh winter of 1962/3 as a watershed period when the stuffy, conformist 1950s gave way to the liberal and progressive 1960s. The winter weather is described along with the events that marked the watershed.
Peter Brabban was born in North West Durham in 1948, one of the very first NHS babies born in Consett. He was educated at Burnopfield Secondary Modern and left in 1963. He had a long career as a photographer covering portraiture, fashion, then later as a documentary photographer for Oxfam in Central Africa and South East Asia. He retired in 2011 and lives in Newcastle.
